The story
I built I Broke 80 because I wanted somewhere for golfers to put the round where they finally got under their number.
My own record, since it bears on everything else here. I broke 80 in 2023, a 78. I have not done it since. My best this year is an 88, and my best ever at Apple Valley is an 84 from about two years ago. Breaking 90 I have done many times. Getting back under 80 is the thing I am actually working on.
That turns out to be a different problem from the one most golf writing solves. Nearly everything published about breaking 80 is written for the golfer who has never done it. Coming back to a level you used to have is its own thing, and there is not much written about it.
